State Representative Dan Huberty has sent a letter to Governor Greg Abbott requesting that Harris County be added to the disaster declaration issued last Wednesday. As issued, the current proclamation includes 31 Texas counties, but not Harris County.
Huberty stated that there was sufficient damage done to homes and properties of residents in House District 127 to warrant a disaster declaration, especially for those who reside on Lake Houston, the San Jacinto River or any of the swollen tributaries nearby. Citing this morning’s May Severe Weather State Situation Report 8 issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Division of Emergency Management, Huberty urged Governor Abbott to add Harris County to the declaration.
Since that time, Huberty has been working with Governor Abbott’s office, the City of Houston, the City of Humble and Harris County to collect the information necessary for a declaration. For this to happen, affected residents must report house flooding by completing a Flood Survey as soon as possible at the Harris County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management’s website atwww.readyharris.org/go/survey/1829/11787/ or by calling the Harris County Flood Control District’s phone bank at 713-684-4000.
