This week I was in Austin to chair the House Committee on Public Education’s interim hearing. We discussed the important topics of assessments and special education. In the hearing, we heard from several members of the education community and their opinions on and experiences with these topics. You can watch the archived broadcast of the hearing here. If you have any feedback on anything you heard in the hearing, or if you ave any questions, please feel free to contact us.
On Thursday, I also had the opportunity to attend a roundtable discussion with my colleagues and several members of the public about school safety in Texas. The emotional accounts of students from Santa Fe and the churchgoers in Sutherland Springs were incredibly moving. I appreciate the Governor’s opportunity to allow us to all sit down together and put faces with the names and stories we’ve been hearing on the news. It is my hope that these discussions will lead to momentous change to protect students in schools.
